JO SMITH,

My Journey

I originally trained as a general nurse from 1982 and then decided to pursue a career in mental health nursing until 2014.

Initially I worked in community projects in Kent and Surrey then in drugs services and forensic psychiatry back in York where I grew up. More recently I set up a young people's service in Scarborough including Shiatsu. I have also provided Shiatsu as part of drug service programmes. I now offer individual and group sessions in Scarborough.

I have always taken an interest in personal development through reading, travel and experiencing therapies such as Hakomi, a body oriented process therapy.

I graduated from The Yorkshire School of Shiatsu in July 2001 after three years study and in November 2002, gained my certificate as a Registered Practitioner, and more recently a Fellow of the Register of the Shiatsu Society.

I support my practice through general good health and fitness and the use of Mindfullness and Seiki practices, seaswimming, Qi Gong, and "five rhythms dance".
